Play by Joël Pommerat

Stage Design: María Angélica Guerrero

For the play written by Joël Pommerats, I chose to set the story in the Colombian mountains. This piece allows for different readings and interpretations due to its writing as it deals with different themes such as military power, misogyny, the role of the artist in society and the power exercised over others in general.

As I read it, I knew I wanted to talk about the South American Patriarchs; Dictators that exist in our countries and have been responsible for perpetuating social inequality and terror for centuries. For this reason, I developed my whole scenographic concept around the figure of the father. The great patriarch in his decadence, hiding in his big hacienda in the middle of the jungle, finally seems to have to pay for his crimes, but in the end nothing changes, everything stays the same. Almost a metaphor for the Third World and underdevelopment.
